Founded in 1939, the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters (WSCFF) has worked to provide our membership the best possible working conditions and the safest possible working environment, along with fair compensation and benefits. The Council is comprised of more than 9,000 fire fighters, EMTs, and paramedics organized into 129 affiliated local unions of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).

The LEOFF 2 Ombudsman provides individual disability and survivor consultation to LEOFF 2 members and their dependents.
Answers questions relating to process, timing and what to expect.
Provides information to assist you in making educated decisions. Works with outside agencies to assist on behalf of members.
Maintains a network of federal, state, and local disability and survivor resources. Identifies organizational roadblocks running counter to constituent interests and tracks problem areas.
Makes recommendations for changes to policies or procedures.
Conducts educational presentations to employers and stakeholder groups on disability and survivor options for their employees and constituents.

The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health, and security of Washington's 3.3 million workers. We help employers meet safety and health standards, and we inspect workplaces when alerted to hazards.
As administrators of the state's workers' compensation system, we are similar to a large insurance company, providing medical and limited wage-replacement coverage to workers who suffer job-related injuries and illness. Our rules and enforcement programs also help ensure workers are paid what they are owed, that children's and teens' work hours are limited, and that consumers are protected from unsound building practices.

The Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals (BIIA) is a state agency that is independent from the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I). The BIIA hears appeals from decisions made by L&I in several areas. The three principal types of appeals are:
Industrial insurance (workers' compensation)
Safety citations under the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA)
Employer Premium (tax assessments and classifications)

Providing Free Washington State Workers' Compensation Claims Assistance - Information - Education

The FIIRE Program is a safety initiative for employers of professional firefighters. The goal is to reduce incidence of firefighter occupational injuries and illnesses through proactive risk management and implementation of best practices according to RCW 51.04.170. L&I partnered with representatives from the Washington Fire Chiefs (WFC) and the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters (WSCFF) to develop the Firefighter Injury and Illness Reduction (FIIRE) Program.
Fire Departments who participate in the FIIRE Program will receive a discount on their workers’ compensation insurance premiums for risk class 6904 and are eligible to apply for grant funding to purchase additional equipment and other gear to implement the best practices. Fire departments must engage for at least one year.

Since 2005, the nonprofit Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) has provided assistance and one-on-one mentoring to thousands of cancer-stricken firefighters and their families. FCSN also delivers extensive firefighter cancer awareness and prevention training nationwide.
